Atopic dermatitis (AtD) is a common skin disease that occupies one of the leading positions among non-infectious dermatoses. It affects predominantly children and young people decreasing life quality of patients and causing patients social disadaptation. According to recent studies a failure of skin barrier function and a disorder of skin microbiota with colonization of the skin by Staphylococcus aureus play an important role in AtD pathogenesis. It should be noted that colonization of the skin by Staphylococcus aureus occurs not only on the affected areas, but also on areas of healthy skin. The article discusses a need in the use of new generation emollients which treat a disorder of skin barrier and restore skin microbiota. It also discusses an innovative drug Lipikar Baume AP+, which consists of Vitreoscilla filiformis probiotic bacteria lysate. The use of this drug allows not just to restore skin barrier function, but also contributes to normalization of skin microbiota in patients with AtD leading to an improvement in dermatosis course.
