The problem of pulmonary edema is still relevant, despite significant progress in understanding the etiology, pathogenesis and approaches to the treatment of this condition. The division into cardiogenic and non-cardiogenic pulmonary edema continues to be used in medical practice. Different pathogenesis and state changes, such as the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, predispose to different approaches to diagnosis and treatment of cardiogenic pulmonary edema and noncardiogenic. It remains essential to use different approaches to differential diagnosis, and consequently to the different clinical tactics. Despite significant advances in diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary edema, mortality can exceed 50%. This article focuses on the definition, diagnosis and differential diagnosis, and treatment of cardiogenic and non-cardiogenic pulmonary edema.
Key words: pulmonary edema, acute respiratory failure, acute heart failure, acute respiratory distress syndrome.
