Angiogenesis plays an important rolein the development, invasion and metastasis of colorectal cancer. The predominant mediator of tumor angiogenesis is vascular endothelial growth factor. Other growth factors implicated in angiogenesis in colorectal cancer in clued fibroblast growth factor, transforming growth factor-a, epidermal growth factor, and platelet-derived growth factor. Angiogenesis inhibitors such as bevacizumab, aflibercept and regorafenib blocks tumor angiogenesis and are being used in the treatment of colorectal cancer.
